UK Storm Damage Insurance Claims Reach £1.2 Billion in 2025

According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), payouts linked to extreme weather have reached their highest level since records began.

In 2025, the average storm‑damage claim climbed to £2,450, an increase of £750 compared to 2024. Flood claims increased even more dramatically, with the typical payout jumping by 60% to £30,000 [1].

These costs came from a wide range of incidents across domestic homes, commercial properties and business interruption policies. Everything from burst or frozen pipes to storm‑damaged roofs and flooded buildings contributed to the rising total [2].

With severe weather becoming more frequent, the ABI has refreshed its guidance to help households prepare. The updated advice includes simple maintenance steps to help keep insurance valid, reduce the risk of damage and make the claims process smoother. You can find more information here.
